Trillion At End Of 2009

WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- The U.S. government held nearly $6 trillion in foreign securities at the end of 2009, a 39% increase from 2008, the Treasury Department said Friday.

Foreign holdings stood at $5.98 trillion at the end of last year, up from $ 4.29 trillion in 2008, the department said. The figures reported in the final annual report were in line with preliminary results of the survey released in August.

The Treasury said a majority, or $4 trillion, of the portfolio is made up of foreign equity. An additional $1.6 trillion is held in foreign long-term debt, with $400 billion in foreign short-term debt.

Foreign securities from the United Kingdom represent the largest country- specific securities in the portfolio at $958 billion, followed by Canada and Japan.

真的不知道美国政府也炒股。真的吗？什么时候开始的？那不跟华尔街一起成了世界最大庄稼了？本来我以为华尔街是世界最大庄稼。
真邪恶啊，FED印钱，财政部买股，那谁能打败他。为什么现在公布这消息？说明美国不怕通货膨胀？说明股市应该涨?
就中国老百姓倒霉啊，辛苦弄点钱，还借给美国政府，美国政府再炒高世界物价，让你BOND损失，让你高价买必需品，让你吐血，让你做美国奴隶。
中国政府大傻啊。

这个应该是美国人持有的外国资产而不是US财政部手里的。。美国政府的钱可能还没有你家的多，一个财政年度的预算没批下来，白宫就要关门。

By Steve Goldstein WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- U.S. portfolios held $5.98 trillion of foreign securities at the end of 2009, up from $4.29 trillion at the end of 2008, according to data released by the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. Of that amount, $4.0 trillion was held in foreign equity, $1.6 trillion was held in foreign long-term debt securities and $0.4 trillion was held in foreign short-term debt securities. The increase mostly reflects increased valuation of foreign equities. The U.K., Canada and Japan attracted about one-third of the total U.S. portfolio investment.

nobody cares, everybody knows white house shut down several times in the past when they had budge problems, it was complete shut down, nobody cleaned the bathroom.

I don't think he understands it at all. Maybe that was the total amount of all US investors into foreign equity
