The stock market was in a good mood the first half of Wednesday’s session. That’s because things with the Greek debt deal seemed to be taking a step forward. Plus Industrial Production and Empire State Mfg Survey showed strength in the manufacturing sector of the US economy.
Then came along the Fed Minutes and the market went in the tank. Why? Because the economy is doing well enough that there is no need for more QE at this time.
And why would that hurt stocks?
Because traders love things like QE and stimulus as they generally improve the odds of stocks going higher. And with that not being served up, some took that as a reason to sell. (then again, the Fed doesn't have many bullets left. So foolish to shoot them now when not really needed).
Silly traders indeed!
I believe no new stimulus is a vote of confidence that the economy is doing well enough on its own and no further accommodation is needed. More reasoned investors will take note of that and will want to continue to buy these dips. Meaning the bullish slant to the market is still in place.
Thursday we have a new slate of economic reports that could get the markets in a more festive mood. Jobless Claims and Housing Starts will be the most important. PPI is likely unimportant. Yet Philly Fed may have some sway.作者: aimei 时间: 2012-2-16 00:07
