NEW YORK (MarketWatch) — Shares of the following companies were among those making notable moves in Monday’s U.S. stock market:

Alcoa Inc.’s /AA +4.80%   shares jumped 6.5% and Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc.’s /FCX +5.47%   shares climbed 6.1% along with advancing metals futures.

Amazon.com Inc.’s AMZN +5.97%   shares gained 6.5% after the online retailer said it sold four times more Kindle products on Friday than it did on the day after Thanksgiving a year ago.

Commercial Metals Co.’s CMC +23.23%   shares gained 23% after investor Carl Icahn‘s Icahn Enterprises LP offered to buy the steel-scrap recycler for about $1.73 billion. AK Steel Holding Corp.’s /quotes/zigman/135948/quotes/nls/aks AKS +6.11%   shares gained 7.1%.

Genworth Financial Inc.’sGNW +11.69%   shares jumped 13% after Citigroup Inc. raised its rating on the insurer to buy from neutral. Read more on financial stocks.

Macy’s Inc.’s M +4.58%   shares advanced 5.8% after the retailer said more than 40% more people linked up outside its flagship store in Manhattan during the weekend.

Madison Square Garden Co.’s MSG +9.98%   shares rose 10% after Miller Tabak Co. raised the owner of the New York Knicks to buy from neutral.

Netflix Inc.’s  NFLX +8.59%   shares jumped 8.1% after Susquehanna Financial Group upgraded the video-rental service to neutral from negative.

Quantum Corp.’s  QTM +10.71%   shares gained 13% after Bloomberg News cited industry analysts in saying the data manager might be targeted for acquisition.

Tiffany & Co.’s  TIF +5.48%   shares climbed 6.5% after the National Retail Federation reported U.S. retail sales hit a record over the Thanksgiving weekend. Other luxury retailers also gained, with shares of Coach Inc. COH +5.97%   up 6.1% and Polo Ralph Lauren Corp.RL +4.28%   gaining 4.8%. Read more on Black Friday sales.

Decliners
Greif Inc.’s  GEF -5.87%   shares slid 5.7% after the maker of shipping and packaging products reduced its 2011 earnings outlook.

Ternium S.A. ADS’s  TX -14.44%   U.S.-listed shares fell 14% after the Luxemburg-based steel maker said it would pay $2.2 billion for a stake in Brazilian rival Usiminas.

Recovery Energy Inc.’s RECV -21.30%   shares declined after the oil exploration company reported third-quarter results.
