U.S. has laws against discrimination of sex, race, age, religion, and disability. China does not.
U.S. has certain basic human rights that China does not.
U.S. has freedom of speech, China does not.
We can elect our city/state/federal government councils, and the majority of votes count. China does not have free election.
Don't get me wrong, U.S. is not perfect, I live in the states and I think there are many many things that the government need to change or improve, better health care system, better social security, etc..But because United States is the melting pot of so many different cultures, we are the spearhead for human/civil rights, and this includes gender equality. This makes for an environment that has the most tolerance toward foreigners, as well as equality toward woman.
