Consumers saw an increase in retail food prices at supermarkets across the country during the first quarter of 2011, according to the latest American Farm Bureau Federation Marketbasket Survey.
Most items showing an increase in retail price from quarter-to-quarter also showed year-to-year increases.
Compared to one year ago, ground chuck was up 18 percent, potatoes were up 17 percent, chicken breasts were up 13 percent and flour was up 11 percent, said John Anderson, AFBF economist.
