At 11:07 AM EDT, The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 50.79 points at 11,070.21. The S& 500 Index rose 6.06 points to 1,203.36. The Nasdaq Composite added 19.67 points at 2,485.66.
JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE:JPM) climbed 2.90% to $47.20 after it reported a-stronger-than-expected earnings for the First quarter. Excluding some items, it earned 74 cents per share versus Wall Street’s estimations of 64 cents.
General Electric Company ( NYSE:GE) surged 1.85% to $19.28 and made created a new 52-week high of $19.30 earlier in the session.
Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) jumped 2.80% to $23.41 after the chip maker reported a stronger than excepted earnings and provided a rosy outlook for the current quarter.
Palm, Inc. (NASDAQALM) rose 2.52% after falling 14.50% yesterday following The latest report from Reuters says that Palm approached Huawei, a Chinese telecommunications equipment company, in February to discuss an acquisition. A source says there’s been no progress since then.
Ambac Financial Group, Inc. (NYSE:ABK) zoomed 21.60%. yesterday, the stock plunged 100% from its intraday high of $3.39 following J.P. Morgan analysts said in a note to clients that Ambac has no equity value.
Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) jumped 2.81% to $13.15.
Radient Pharmaceuticals Corporation (AMEX:RPC) again plunged 25% to $1.27 on heavy volume after falling about 25% yesterday. But the stock is still up about 468% in the past five sessions.
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) jumped 1.13% to $245.18 after it said on Wednesday it would delay for one month the international launch of its popular iPad tablet computer, due to stronger-than-expected first-week sales in the United States.
Citigroup Inc. (NYSE:C) rose 2.81% to $4.75 after it announced this morning that they will be selling their hedge fund business, a unit earmarked for sale as part of Citi Holdings, to SkyBridge Capital.
Alcoa Inc. (NYSE:AA)fell 0.77% after falling 1.50% yesterday following lower than expected sales in the first quarter.
SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK) jumped 5.90% to $34.08 after hitting a new 52-week high of $38.44.
Morgan Stanley (NYSE:MS) climbed 1.35% and UBS AG (USA) (NYSE:UBS) surged 2.46% to $17.52.
Popular, Inc. (NASDAQ:BPOP) jumped 5.14% to $3.68 after it has priced an offering of $1.0 billion in depositary shares, each representing a 1/40th interest in a share of Contingent Convertible Perpetual Non-Cumulative Preferred Stock, Series D, no par value, $1,000 liquidation preference per share. |
