Asia stocks mostly lower ahead of earnings
HONG KONG (MarketWatch) — Asian stocks drifted lower Tuesday as caution in the wake of strong recent gains and ahead of the U.S. earnings season led investors to lock in profits, with a firmer yen pressuring shares in Tokyo.
The Nikkei Stock Average JP:100000018 -0.48% fell 0.3% in Tokyo and the Hang Seng Index HK:HSI -0.48% gave up 0.4% in Hong Kong.
China’s Shanghai Composite CN:000001 -0.59% slipped 0.2%, Taiwan’s Taiex XX:Y9999 -0.64% and South Korea’s Kospi KR:SEU -0.36% lost 0.4% each, while Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 index AU:XJO -0.06% was little changed from Monday’s close. |
